This is a photographic montage of life on and around Oxford Street in Sydney in the middle of 2003!
When he moved to the Emerald City, James lived in the Hyde Park Plaza on the corner of College and Oxford Street, with Tim Rowson who was a Manager in the Set Department of the Lion King and this provided a bird's eye view of life in Darlinghurst.
As you can see much of the street was under renovation including Taylor Square, however, it was business as usual for the shops, cafes and bars that populated the strip.
This collection of images include icons such as the Bookshop Darlinghurst, Betty's Soup Kitchen, Cafe Comity, the Gowings Window along with glimpses of the chic and trendy establishments just off the strip.
People include Tim R, mentioned above, Rob S, George the Waiter at Betty's, and pictured with James above, at the Colombian, is Tim aka Opera Boy because he was a Tenor with the Australian Opera Company and a good friend!
Hiding behind the pool table downstairs at the Midnight Shift is Greg Guthenberg who we can report is alive and well and still holding the fort in the Emerald City!
The Gallery, Above, contains a selection of from the camera proofs and for narrative context, we've included the random people and the shots of workers as a memorial to days gone by for the sake of Auld Lang Syne! "We two have paddled in the stream, from morning sun till dine; But seas between us broad have roared since auld lang syne".
